The Frogs and the Lobsters

Some of you might have seen this on the LAF but here it is again :-)

I've wanted to do a little project based on the Hornblower tv episode 'The Frogs and the Lobsters' for quite a while and have now got stuck into it.

It's a cinematic project and probably won't even follow the Hornblower film that closely, as with most of my projects it's for fun rather than a historical study although I'll try and get the terrain/buildings as accurate as possible without spending too much time over it.

Only six French figures for the moment but I've got another six built and ready to paint but as the news ones will be royalists I'm not sure whether to prime dark and layer up or prime light and use washes :-/


The first bit of terrain is done as well in the form of a village barn. I'll be keeping the bases relatively small so they don't take up too much room.

    Wonderful stuff again, your roof and wall textures have more personality than lots of other people's painted figures out there.

      I like trying different mixes for wall texture as it helps to break up the monotomy. It can also give an idea as to how well-to-do the owner is.

    Impressive as ever. The shape of the base just blows my OCD mind... how could you? Yet it's inspired and so obvious! I need a lay down...

      It was actually an offcut but having slightly odd shaped bases is preferable for a more rural look.

      I've got an old gunboat I dug out that can be re-purposed, trouble is, I need some coastline terrain to play on lol
