Another semaphore tower

But quite different from the last one.

Went for a walk down on Chatley Heath the other week and there's a wonderful semaphore tower from the early 19th century. Not much use in normal games but I thought it would be perfect for Mars. There is a telegraph system on Mars but with Sky Martian raids destroying the lines and the engineers hard pressed to keep up it's a good opportunity to have something with a more reliable form of communication.

We can also use it for our (eventual) games of England Invaded/Battle of Dorking when it gets off the ground. One of the reasons why it hasn't been based (keeping my options open).

BLAM 2018 Sunday VSF game

There has been a sort of tradition that Sunday is VSF day and this year was no exception. As most people leave on the Sunday throughout the day (various trains and planes to catch etc) it was a sort of ‘pick me up’ game with people coming and going as the day went on.

Not too much of a report as the game is part of a long running campaign which can be read on the Red Planet Miniatures blog (although I have several games to put on there to catch up before I post this one).

The basic plot was that a British Officer by the name of Allan Farquarson had been having his wicked way with the Imperial Japanese Princess and tensions between the Japanese and British empires had becomes strained to the point of war.

The Japanese has captured Allan and were holding him in an allied City Martian outpost waiting for a large relief column to come and extract him to earth. The British and their allies; the Germans and Americans, were out to take him back...

Suffice to say, they succeeded.

Currently away but...

But back next week so to keep you going here are a few photos of  some of the VSF antics I get up to. I hope to have some more comprehensive posts regarding this but seeing as a lot of it was some time ago I'm not relishing the text part...

I'm posting this now due to the time difference but next week it'll be the usual early evening timing

First few pictures (and the last two) are from some games that have been played in the past, middle pictures are scratchbuilt neffs and buildings. The buildings use element from the Victorian range in the catalogue Here which is going to have a bit of an overhaul in the next few weeks.

On to the photos!

And now for something completely Victorian

Just a quickie tonight of a simple Victorian style factory building for my Martian VSF project. The main body was drawn from scratch but the chimney and fortified tower I've had for a while (the chimney is in the catalogue and the tower will be soon).

Originally I was going to have a viaduct section popping out the top but, as you will see in a series of VSF posts coming soon, doing the stone work would have taken too long.

It's all 2mm lasered acrylic, sprayed red and cream and then given a brown ink wash, drybrushed with a couple of differing shades. Windows are 1mm acrylic and sprayed white with a thinned down ink wash. The pavement was 2mm and again sprayed tan and speckled with a few choice colours and then inked and drybrushed.

I've got some signs to do but I'm waiting until the sheet I'm printing out is full otherwise it's a bit of a waste.

Picture time!
