LotR, but different

In 10mm this time. Yet another project we decided to do and has sort of stalled but we've got enough figures for a couple of small games (if they ever get painted).

Copplestone has been the provider for myself and I chose to go for Mordor orcs. A simple paint scheme of a sprayed brown base coat, a liberal washing of dark brown ink and then details picked out in either one or to highlights.

Characters had a little more time spent on them and I was quite pleased with Saruman of Many Colours (although he has been called Saruman with his technicoloured dream cloak...).

Of course, no project for us is complete with out a it of terrain and given that the figures are more generic and don't follow the Peter Jackson films the architecture could stray form his vision as well. I went for a slightly Mediterranean feel but with a fantasy element added to give it more of a Tolkein feel. I believe his intention for Gondor was somewhere around the med or something akin to Byzantine. What I came up with just felt right.

I went down the laser route for this given the details of the windows and it as simple enough to cut the walls out from card and put them together. The tiles were also laser cut and they might make an appearance in the catalogue at some point.

Simple ground work and a few trees to finish off. I've got a few small holding on the go in a similar vein and when this projet sees the light of day I';; get them out again.

Waylands Bushido board

A couple of years ago I was asked to make a four foot square demo table for Wayland Games as they had started to stock the Bushido range of figures.

Very poor quality progress photos I'm afraid so I'm not going to post any as they don't look good at all and a lot of the details are lost but I will post plenty of the complete board as some of the them almost look real thanks to the sunshine we had at the time the pictures were taken.

A little diorama

This as made for a little friendly competition on the WAB forum years ago. I think I won but to be fair there weren't that many entrants :-)

The combatants are from the Honda clan (black and white) and the Ii clan (red). The bridge is made following plans gained from the Osaka history museum.

The water is a remeltable one but unfortunately there is still a miniscus around the edges, youcan get finger prints in it (it stay rubbery) and it collects dust like a bugger :-/

Anyway, on to some photos :-)

Whilst I'm in the posting mood...

I'll show you another little commission that was done awhile ago.

It's a wajo, which was generally a small fort in Korea made by the invading Japanese and although they were only supposed to be temporary structures they were built to resist determined attack.

Only a couple of progress photos which are below with the remainder being finished piccies. Unfortunately I haven't cleaned up the finished photos yet but they don't look too bad.

The basic construction was an acrylic box following the finished shape, this was then clad in resin stonework sheeting that I'd had a for a while. The walls were lasered in card with a few damaged areas that were filled with a simple mesh.

Distressed balsa wood for the roofs and a copious amount of sand and it was ready for painting

The wajo was painted with off white panels (apparently there is quite chalky soil in certain parts of Korea) and a greyish brown for the wood.

The stone walls were painted in various shades of grey including some creams and then were washed with ink and drybrushed up.

The flags were printed up, slightly weathered and stuck to some brass frames that I soldered together.
